When looking at the necessity of vehicle repairs, there are several things to consider. As North America’s #1 body shop, we want to ensure we equip you with everything you need to know about the different forms of damage and the type of repair it may require.
However, there is one key thing to remember. No matter the damage, the longer for you to take to repair your vehicle, the more damage it does.

Do have chips or scratches on your car?
If left untreated and exposed to the elements over time, chips or scratches could ultimately ruin your paint job. Spot painting is appropriate in these instances because it’s only needed on one or two panels of your car.

  1. The surface must be chemically cleaned and sanded before any painting.

  2. To ensure accurate blending of the new and old paint, masking must be used to maintain the integrity of the color and protect the undamaged area.

  3. Please be aware that the age and condition of the vehicle could also affect the ability to match the original color formula.

Does your car have dents, dings, and other imperfections?
Manufacturers design vehicles to collapse a certain way. This is to keep passengers safe. To maintain the integrity of your vehicle, you would need an auto body repair.

  1. The first stage in the auto body repair process is to bring your car in for an assessment.

  2. Once the damaged area is assessed, a recommendation will be made to either repair or replace the damaged parts, based on the vehicle manufacturer’s repair guidelines.

  3. Sometimes these repairs require welding, paintless dent removals or dent pulling, but it depends on the manufacturer and the level of damage.

Do you see surface rust on your car?
Rust is a form of corrosion. When it comes to the metal on your car, it weakens the integrity of the surface. If untreated, rust also detracts from your vehicle’s resale value and is a potentially dangerous hazard. We strongly recommend contacting your local Maaco shop right away when you notice any rust for rust repair.

  1. First, the patch of rust is sanded down to the remaining metal beneath. Then a body filler is added to bond that newly exposed space.

  2. Next, that filler is sanded down, so the bonded area is flush with the surrounding surface.

  3. Lastly, the area is repainted to match the original color.

Do you see paint cracking on your car?
Paint cracking occurs after about three to six years on vehicles, commonly on the upper panel. Paint breakdown happens because of the sun’s UV rays. If cracks are not treated, they can also lead to rust. Your car may need surface reconditioning if you start to see cracks, peeling and excessive paint chipping.

  1. The trained technician will do paint removal (stripping), to eliminate cracking, peeling, or delamination.

  2. Stripping is essential in these instances. If the area is simply repainted, it allows for solvents to seep into the paint and open cracks, magnifying existing problems.

  3. Once the area is stripped, the new surface will be repainted to match the original color.
